Sailors in the SkySailors tend to keep their feet planted firmly on gray paint cruising the Seven Seas, so hurling themselves from a C-130 at 12,000 feet rarely crosses their minds…right? For about 40 years, the Academy has had skydivers lurking in its midst, and two years ago enterprising Midshipmen Brian McMenamin ’09 and Ben Fox ’09 formed a freefall team, and they can’t wait to show us all how it’s done…then beat Army.

For over forty years, the U.S. Naval Academy has been producing freefall skydivers. Unfortunately, except for a few years during the Vietnam era, the brass has been reluctant to offer administrative support. Thus, virtually all involvement in skydiving by mids has been on a private, individual level.
